A West Philadelphia abortion doctor has been arrested and charged with 8 counts of murder in the deaths of a woman patient and 7 babies. The bablies were born alive and then killed with scissors, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 69, his wife and 8 other colleagues were arrested overnight following a Grand Jury investigation. Gosnell and his wife are currently being held at headquarters without bail. Also included in that group is a teenager who reportedly administered anesthetic.

According to the Philadelphia District Attorney's office, Gosnell is facing murder in the 3rd Degree for the death of 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar.

Mongar died on November 20, 2009 when she was overdosed with anesthetics prescribed by Gosnell.

He is also facing seven murder charges for the deaths of infants who were killed after being born viable and alive during the 6th, 7th and 8th month of pregnancy.

Gosnell "induced labor, forced the live birth of viable babies in the sixth, seventh, eighth month of pregnancy and then killed those babies by cutting into the back of the neck with scissors and severing their spinal cord," District Attorney Seth Williams said.

Along with the murder charges the District Attorney has charged Gosnell with Infanticide, Conspiracy, Abortion at 24 or more weeks, Abuse of Corpse, Theft, Corruption of Minors, Solicitation and other related offenses.

Williams held a news conference Wednesday morning, where he reviewed the 300-page Grand Jury report, the details of which are incredibly disturbing. "I am aware that abortion is a hot-button topic," said District Attorney Williams. "But as District Attorney, my job is to carry out the law. A doctor who knowingly and systematically mistreats female patients, to the point that one of them dies in his so-called care, commits murder under the law."

Last April, the FBI and Drug enforcement agents raided Gosnell's 38th and Lancaster Clinic, called the Women's Medical Society. Inside, they found jars packed with pieces of aborted fetuses and recliners used in a recovery area for women who had abortions.

Gosnell's medical license was been suspended because of the conditions at his clinic. He has also been targeted in multiple lawsuits, at least one charging that a woman died from a botched abortion.

Gosnell is named in nearly four dozen civil suits going back 20 years. Ten of those are malpractice suits, including one by the family of a young woman who died after a March 2000 abortion at Gosnell's office.

Gosnell charged $325 for first-trimester abortions and $1,600 to $3,000 for abortions up to 30 weeks. Abortions are legal up to 24 weeks gestation in Pennsylvania, although most doctors won't perform them after 20 weeks, prosecutors said.

  • Why abort a living baby when you can always give it up to families who cant have babies. Give it up for adoption! Be responsible for your actions.

  • Sick!!! He will go to Hell!!!!!

  • @fvgdfbdokd Free Religion, I am a Christian, I don't give a rats ass that your an atheist, I also don't care what gays do in the privacy of their own home. However, Islam is not a religion, It is an Ideology. Under Islamic law (which is still enforced today), Gays are executed for being gay, Atheists as well. I respect the freedom of those who respect mine. I do not respect those who want to subjugate and enforce their will upon me, my family and my culture.

  • @fvgdfbdokd I supported it for one simple reason. Al Quaeda decided to make Iraq they're fortress, it was supposed to be a second Afganistan (when they beat the soviets). They bet everything on Iraq. And lost, the U.S lost 6 thousand men, Al Quaeda lost anywhere from 50 to 80 thousand. Those where terrorists that died in Iraq, not in London or New York, killing innocent civilians. Today Al Quaeda is no more. Thanks to Bush.

  • @fvgdfbdokd !4 intelligence agencies across the world agreed that at one point there were WMD in Iraq. Saddam did use bacteriological weapons to purge the northern shiites after all. He also at one point tried to build a nuclear bomb (though thankfully it never amounted to anything).

And even if there were no more WMD in Iraq left (Saddam destroyed them fearing an invasion), I still supported the American Invasion of that country.

  • @necrotyk1985 Yes but the fact is that is your OPINION and the first amendment to the constitution guarantees free religion to everyone in this country. And there were no WMDs in Iraq.

  • @necrotyk1985 How is it forcing their views on society? If you don't like gay marriage then DON'T MARRY SOMEONE THE SAME SEX AS YOU.

  • @fvgdfbdokd I am European, and I supported Bush then, there was nothing illegal about his war to defend America. Shameful how far America has fallen, when even Americans belittle his name.

As for Islam, the so called "religion of peace" Read the Coran, read the Hadith, read the how all the schools of Islamic teaching support Sharia, and read the history of one and a half milennia long quest to conquer and subjugate and ENSLAVE. Islam is an alien, and hostile IDEOLOGY, not a religion.

  • @fvgdfbdokd Ironic, I was raised by a fanatical atheist is there ever was one. And at the crucial point in my life, it wasn't atheist and who came to aid me. It was my 60 year old Hungarian literature teacher, who was also a nun. I am Christian because I chose to be sane rather than insane ( like atheists) As for gays, don't care about them on way or the other, as long as they don't try to force their views on the rest of society ( gay marriage.)

  • @necrotyk1985 In all honesty, Jesus's philosophy is dead on as far as how people SHOULD live, but others like Paul the Apostle have twisted that message. Thomas Jefferson wrote a version of the new testemate omitting all references to Jesus being the son of God and all of the epistles. If you want moral guidance read THAT book. Lastly, while I would hope all women do exactly as you say and put an unwanted child up for adoption the fact is it is not yours or my decision to make.
