February 2012. Ben successfully cycled the length of Africa including across the DRCongo during 2011 and has also riden across Spain, over the Pyrennes and into France where he enjoyed great hospitality in and around St. Girons. See a video from St. Girons on Utube: benhopkins.mpg

@EdgarG78. Ben does it on the cheap. Uses a chrome-molybenum steel alloy frame cross (ie not full mtb) (1980s model giant), home made pannier bags, custom made frames to support the panniers, 24 speed chain gears, 26 inch wheels (double skin), good quality tyres, turn down handle bars with grips on the brake handles. He mostly camps out, uses a spirit burner stove, eats local food. Do it easy on 30,000 and probably much less.

In 2011 ben hopkins rode across australia, got a plane from perth to cape town, south africa, and plans (don't take that word too literally) to ride from one end of that wonderful continent to the other. Pity the poor parents.

gives those of us who followed your trek a sense of reality about the trip. i do notice that the road looks in pretty good condition and the only traffic bearing down on you there is puffing dude on another bike. some splendid hills!
