  • Hm.

A few years ago, I was an anarchist completely, until I hit a point where I thought it impractical/impossible.

Very recently, through a discussion on anarch-syndicalism with a friend of mine, I brought myself back into this idea of organization, but hesitated to brand myself as an anarchist because of the "progression of technology factor". After watching this video and thinking, I think I'm getting past this. Definitely subscribing and watching more.

  • During the times of Kings and Queens, most folks believed that Democratic rule was impossible and impracticable. It's not hard to understand why people felt this way. Through advances in the sciences and with the rise of global communication, democratic rule was established. That is until it fell apart. Likewise, we are more suited today for some form of anarchist society on a global scale than we have ever been in human history.... (continued)

  • That's not to say we don't have a long, long way to go. The people must first come to realize the absurdity of State and Capitalism. They have to understand that these institutions do not grant us or protect our freedom. Freedom is a birth right. It isn't until our freedom is in the hands of other humans that we begin to lose it. Neither State or Capitalism has the power to grant freedom, for it is not theirs to issue. (continued)

  • They are only able to grant the freedoms we first surrendered. Our only goal regarding freedom is to insure that it is allowed to flourish most equally. All of that aside....

It's not a question of weather or not an Anarchic society is possible. Our goal is and should always be to promote Equality In Liberty when ever possible and to defend it when ever it is necessary. If we are to hold to this, then any society that follows is in a state of Anarchy.

  • There's a guy on youtube with a video that asserts that civilization itself originated under anarchist conditions (as opposed to the hierarchical tribal/pack organization that may have predominated in other parts of the world). Maybe you're familiar with the confedaralsocialist channel?

  • I just subscribed to him last night. I'll have to look for that video it sounds similar to my arguments. Thanks!

  • On the issue of AnarchoCapitalists/Voluntaryists not being an anarchists, I think it's correct in a sense. It's not exactly "anarchism" from a cultural or traditional perspective, which has overwhelmingly been a Left leaning movement. However, I think it fits the core definition of "without rulers". I consider the act of being ruled over an involuntary one. Thus to freely exchange my services with a business owner isn't violating anarchism.

With that said, I prefer the term "Voluntaryist"

  • Exactly. I have to thank you for bringing anarchist thought back to the front of my mind, I'm proud once again to call myself an anarchist.

  • Yes I do. However, some distinctions need to be made. When Danny talks about Government, in this context, he is talking about Government as we currently know it in every 1st world country. To help make a distinction here, I always say that I support governance but not government. But your right, any governance can be considered government. The government we are against are, obviously, the ones based on violence, coercion and that impose on the freedom of individuals.

  • Out of curiosity, in DannyOKC's lesson 1.1, he says that he doesn't want any form of government, he wants organisation. Do you agree with this? Because to my eye, any form of organisation would be a form of government (again, that might be a very naive stance to take).
