TaeKwonDo or TKD Basic Blocks
Blocks are direct or circular movements to stop strikes or kicks. Blocks can prevent injury or even save your life.
High Block: Upward movement of the arm to deflect a punch to the face or a strike to the head.
The Middle Block can be INWARD or OUTWARD in a circular movement to protect the middle section of the body. The Lower Block, or Down block: is a downward movement of the arm to block a strike on either side of the lower body blow the navel.
X Block: can be downward or upward movement with your arms crossed to block a hand strike or kick.
PALM Block: Downward or outside movement of the open hand to stop or redirect a kick or strike.
Repeated practice of these combat applications brings proper use of energy and power.

  • yes I see, yes street fighters and UFC fighters only really perfect a handful of moves rather than becoming encompassed within an art. I agree with you friend. Thanks for watching.

  • I think that with that extra step that someone quick would get through that block... Blocking has to be far quicker than that.

  • was looking for inside blocks and double knife block, good vid but not what i needed

  • Exactly, any unarmed method should naturally lend it self to armed combat methods. Thanks for watching.

  • you can see application of the blocks in one and 2 step sparring videos but historically I agree with karate historians who say forms including the blocks used in them are for actually using with a weapon such as a staff or sai. Practice of them empty handed will assist you in performing them with a pool cue, pitchfork and other implement generally at hand.

  • The move to "street fighting" has caused people in general to completely lose focus on the art part. Your explenation is informative, that it has to be explained now due to ultimate fighting fad is what is sad - unfortunate - dismaying - just like it's sad that the internet is making people become too literal to not recognize a metaphore anymore.

  • I see my friend, are you associated with the ITF or WTF?
