Found this concept while looking for the ultimate low input / hv driver for the Don Smith, very impressed with this performance, a truly brilliant hookup, no resistors, chips or anything fancy, and strangely it uses the least current, and has the most unlikely arrangement.
Had this built the same day i saw it, 2 days ago, and impressed me more than some of the most complex circuits.
I am still building the Don Smith, and soon the "real" Kapanadze, but looking for the best hv driver for Don S first :)

  • Those CFL's are gutted, correct, circuitry removed, just two leads?

  • @KyleCarrington

yes, Imhotep/kojcza shows it best, but the two wire on the inside wrap together to make 2 bigger ones, then to the 2 wires on the bottom, confusing to read i know

  • Does this circuit require a true earth ground?

  • @KyleCarrington

Yep, well it may work with the grnd from a 3 prong plug-in, but im using a copper pipe in the grnd with a 4mm stranded solid copper wire thru the window, keep in mind that my battery wasnt totally dead, im still doing testing with this and other arrangements as we speak

  • OMFG - that is outrageous! I am building the circuit known as the French Inverter (flip flop type with FETs). Fascinating videos from various people so far, but your circuit is just so simple. I'm having great fun with this kind of thing as I want to charge a battery from solar cells and power all the CFLs in the house using small inverters. I would have a voltage sensor co it could switch back to mains. Still planning it all, but very excited!!!!

cool man, that sounds sweet, keep us posted!

  • @kdkinen Cool. I picked up an auto coil today. I have no idea if it has an internal resistor or not, though. I'll try to get it running, just going over the circuit again, right now, once again. It almost seem too simple.

  • @eloid777

...still pretty sweet... ground triggering base lol

Plus arcs from the hv, too cool, may not have the power for D Smith, but is great if you... use lights hehe

--check out vid 4 just posted and re-read the battery :)

Running for 3 days now and any gain, is surely spectacular, anyway, building a vari-freq driver as we speak.

Make some vids man!! im sure you'd make some good ones

  • very small gain need to show large current gain for useful power gain
