Since I am Japanese, every time I listen to this I feel so proud of my home land. GO NIPPON!!!!

The lyrics of the anthems alone show that the Japanese anthem was way older than the Chinese anthem.

The Japanese anthem speaks of loyalty to the emperor. And the title of the Japanese emperor has been there for centuries. The Chinese anthem speaks of fighting at a "most perilous time" -- considering that the melody was written in the 1900s, the "most perilous time" being referred to is an instance of foreign invasion.

And by the way, "Kimi ga yo" was written in the mid-1800s -- AD, not BC.
