I think it's better value to the countries from who they are today, not for what they have been. American or British history is as dark as spanish history.

I like the daily reporting of the murder 'per genero' numbers. It makes the public away.
Why is it ignorant to ask if they receive the same pay? Many women do the same jobs as men and receive a different wage.
-
And they get the same pay as the male ministers. You are so ignorant...

Spain is wrongly believed (both within Spain and abroad) to have a strong problem of domestic violence, when it is quite the opposite. Spain is among the lowest countries in Europe of domestic violence cases per capita. In other EU countries the situation is worse, but it isn´t reported as heavily as in Spain. Maybe because the media or the public is not intereseted in these morbid affairs which they consider private issues, so there is not a public awareness as in Spain.

See here the pregnant Spanish Minister of Defence visiting the Spanish troops in afghanistan.

Thanks for posting this video and giving some good news from my country.
Visit TVE 'teledario' for the full story, in Australia we get this on SBS. It is to be expected. The country is trying hard to dump the Machismo image. Every day they keep a list of murders committed by men against women. The unanswered question is: Do they get the same pay as the male ministers?

Dear carolethecatlover thanks for your comments. Your reaction "It is to be expected." does not come across as appreciative of Mr. Zapatero's hard won positive achievements. Instead you remind us of the outstanding negatives. Did you intend it this way? Even though the issues you raise are valid but the context here is to celebrate and enjoy the moment because it was not easily done i.e. in Australia how far are they in terms of building a non-sexist egalitarian society with respect to Spain?

Thanks for the post. I missed the news out of Spain. I guess it is time for the world to turn to the real lights of our time, not the mirages.

Dear Mfundza, I like the use of "mirages" because it correctly depicts how the popular media focus our attention on less substantive matters whereas more interesting facts like the new government in Spain is not hitting the right headlines. Let's hope people can follow your advice in this regard.
