In February 2009 the Administration of the San Francisco Art Institute laid off a quarter of its faculty in violation of the union contract. Notorious union busting law firm Littler Mendelson is involved.

DEFEND SFAI FROM UNION BUSTERS!!!
What will this mean to people who are trying to apply to this school? Will they have lower quality education for a higher price? Is it worth it to apply to SFAI anymore?

I am heartbroken to hear that Charles Boone was laid off. He was one of the first instructors I had the pleasure to learn from at SFAI in 2001 - 2005, not to mention one of the greatest influences in my life conceptually and musically.

Ugly ugly... the administration hasn't changed since the days of Roy Ascot & Co. How can a school of 600 require an administrator who earns $333K per year? Sad.

The Admin's at SFAI now are behaving collectively in a manner most would consider FASCIST. The students will now begin paying very high legal costs to defend these actions by the Administration. Good Tuition money at work-
Keep those "old" Faculty - they have wisdom. It is a sad world when people from the Administration ask students: "Why would you WANT to study with someone OLD?" (for real) Thank you Outraged Students - and those who do not care - let your good tuition $ pay legal fees!

This is astonishing. As an SFAI graduate (MFA 1997) I am EXTREMELY disappointed and dismayed that my beloved alma mater has fallen into such disarray. I know the times are tough, but I mistakenly thought that the arts would be a safe haven for free expression, support, and creativity. The students are being ripped off when the high quality professors are being under-paid or worse fired. All alumni need to stand up to the dismantling of what was the finest art school i the nation.
