Perhaps it is time to integrate New Zealand in Australia as two different states: North Island and South Island.
The right link from Australis to South Island would be Tasmania (Hobart-Christchurch)
The problems is in the North Island, as another link will be needed, and the right link would be New Caledonia (Noumea), which also could integrate into Australia (with French support)

Still no ideas as to the demographic and professional status of those going to OZ. How many used to work in manufacturing and low wage service jobs? How many builders and plumbers - needed everywhere? Also, how much of this is pent up demand after citizenship here was extended from 3 years to 5 years in April 2005 in response to Australian concerns NZ was being used as a back door into Australia? That would have slowed a few people own on their way to OZ from wherever.
