Bobby was probably captivated by Nicole's charm (a common trait of sociopaths). I think Bobby saw a person that he couldn't "fix," just as he couldn't "fix" his Mother. I agree that on a subconscious level he may have been trying to rectify the past. I like the fact that Bobby is vulnerable, it makes him real to me. Well, the character is true to life in the sense that most people with his past would have difficulties with intimacy and relationships.

I'm still not convinced that they weren't trying to convey Bobby having more than friendly feelings for Nicole. It was no secret that he dealt with his mother's illness, and felt he never lived up to her expectations. So what better than to try to "fix" someone else and project the love he felt for his mother that never seemed to be returned on to Nicole. I still wish they would have made Bobby's character a little stronger emotionally and given him a healthy relationship at times.

When I first watched the series, I too hated the episodes with Nicole. I came to enjoy them immensely because those episodes brought out the emotional side of Goren. Goren was always the analytical mind with the intuitive hunch. Throw Nicole in the mix and he became befuddled. Bobby never came across to me as weak or dumb, but rather manipulated by a very convincing sociopath.

I think Bobby related to Nicole on a psychological level, but that relating was a far cry from loving her. He saw his own psychological condition in her and realized that her life path could easily have been his own. I think he empathized or sympathized with her condition, but, being so familiar with mental illness, knew that what was ailing her couldn't be cured. Bobby constantly referred to the DSM-IV and probably researched her condition to the point of obsession.

I think that Bobby had the ability to love Nicole only showed his strength of character. He saw the potential in her that had been twisted by the two degenerates she had the misfortune to meet.
Bobby never kept from trying to bring out the better side of Nicole and she did start to evolve until she met Declan! He took her down the dark path by playing on her feeling for Bobby!
Bobby and Nicole were emotional twins composed of shadow and light. They both got to each other because they understood and each other.
The only thing that saved Bobby is his empathy towards others. I wasn't surprised that Nicole's last words to her killer, Declan, was to tell Bobby that she loved him.
Declan also hit the nail on the head when he asked who he would miss most-- his late brother or Nicole?

Yes, but Nicole gravitated to the dark side with murder, while Bobby fought his demons towards the light to help others. I still wished Bobby only felt pity for Nicole, not love, wanting him stronger than that. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Oh no! Serj was right--the mind control and post-hypnotic suggestion got to me! Lighten up! It just was a good song to go with the storyline of a TV show with my favorite actor! But thanks for watching and commenting, baby!
