Chris Preddie aka Cashman tells us how the SLAM changed his life. Chris was awarded an OBE in the 2012 New Year Honours list for his work as a Crimestoppers Community Champion, urging young people to turn away from gangs.
Chris won the SLAMbassadors national championships in 2006 with a poem telling how his brother's death led him to reject his old life. SLAMbassadors is a national competition run by the Poetry Society and spoken word artist Joelle Taylor which finds and nurtures talented young poets. Chris continues to create poetry, using it in his work with young people to speak out against gangs and gun and knife crime. For more of his poems, check out other Chris Preddie videos on the Poetry Society channel.
