My dear friend spacmonkey1, a statue can be used or no statue at all is quite OK for us. However, our people find it more convenient to easily remember and to focus their mind upon, say Sri Krishna when we go before a statue or picture that looks exactly like Him(God). I guess that you are not Hindu, but we do accept these simple methods of worshipping the omnipresent God without even considering whether or not we should use an image or not. As you rightly said, offerings to the invisible is OK.
It is difficult for a non-hindu to explain Hinduism. The commentator says that a hindu makes offerings to a statue, its' like saying the the 21st century speaks to a cell-phone. only the intelligent would understand that people speak to other people using the device called a cell-phone and not to the cell-phone itself. Hindus DO NOT make offerings to a statue but to the the LIVING GOD. In an act of unusual LOVE for GOD they must find a place to place such an offering. The statue is used . God is
Hinduism is not one thing. This is such crap. Hinduism has become in the West as much an A umbrella word as Pagan or Heathen. Buddhism started in India and from this perspective, its also Hindu. What a joke. Monkeys should not be given Cameras and a Microphone.
Very Inaccurate and incorrect representation of facts ... Its disgusting to see how contorted the understanding of Hinduism is. The commentator cannot even pronounce the Sanskrit words correctly !
I am shocked by the blatant inaccuracies and biases suggested in this program. All previous BBC documentaries I have seen so far have been objective, and have been based on anthropological/archaeological evidence.
None of this is presented here. It would appear to be a reflection of Mr. Kingsley's rejection of his former faith.
@ukgreaterlondon and the virgin mary in the catholic church which is still a sect of christianity.. plus all those other saints and roserys and other what nots they spend more time worshipping than god... but hey.. humans will do whatevers in their best interest, and humans created religion, not a god if there is one.
