Schools Chancellor Joel Klein often lauds a small group of Harlem charter schools founded by former City Councilwoman Eva Moskowitz, writes Democracy Now! co-host Juan Gonzalez in the New York Daily News. But few New Yorkers are aware of the access Moskowitz has to the chancellor or the special support he has bestowed on her program, whose four schools enroll just 1,300 of the citys more than 1 million public school students.

Armchair quarterback?
I would like to see any of them attempt to teach a remedial math class at a junior high in Compton or Watts?
They wouldn’t last a week!
God bless the hard-working dedicated inner city teachers who risk their lives daily! Teaching the children of gang-members,drug-addicts, prostitutes, illegal immigrants, poverty-stricken families, etc. Many times, going beyond the call of duty to help those people!
Those teachers are the TRUE ROCK STARS!

I wonder if has shown the same diligence and effort in scrutinizing the rest of of the public schools. "shows direct support for charter schools" from the top person. Heaven forbid he should try something new or run schools the way an uneducated reporter should see fit.
