The camera always cuts to Hurley first after the bird screeches his name.

First the Hybirs screams "Hurley!". What will the DHARMA shark (the that attacked the raft in Season 1) scream? "Sawyer!"?

@tvrulesnation The epilogue "The new man in charge" explains that The hydra station performed genetic experiments on animals and created a breed of hybrid birds dubbed "hy-birds". They released them on the island to see how they would adapt to the Island since it had mysterious properties. It might be strange but that's how "Hurley bird" came about, according to the show itself.

Apparently, that bird is something called a Hybird (nope not Hybrid) according to the Epilogue

Chances are i won't have the DVD boxsets etc for a long time & will forget, you can gladly explain it as many others here are also wondering what the hell was the point in the bird?

I assume its the general accepted theory of the aboriginal myth-bird, or Hurley raised it back in the 70s & it recognised him?

I really gotta re-watch lost over summer the amount of little things i've forgotten about (totally forgot bout that field)

@tvrulesnation There was a special Q&A with the writers of Lost on May 21st. It was playing at 4 different movie theatre here in Los Angeles, CA and it was a live Q&A via satellite. I was lucky to attend it and they do explain the Hurley Bird. I wont spoil it for you because it will be released on DVD. They'll also explain the random tube that spits out paper out in the field. That one was actually interesting. :)
