Even though I don't mean to extend my arms out straight at impact It still happens. I have a bad back which keeps my hips restricted in clearing them on the downswing. My head does move down on the downswing and my back looses its angle making my head look like it is shoved down between my shoulder at impact. My worst trait is to hook my driver. My swing looks a lot like this one even with the back leg locked out because it hurts to much not to. Any thoughts on this?
I say a lateral move *is* happening, and you get confused with your hit-rotational dtl view :) The front on view doesn't lie when you place a line at address and then impact..... I believe that measure way above your dtl-angle markers :)
If there was no lateral motion then how does his shaft end up leaning forward at impact?
The angle of his right leg increases as he gets closer to the ball, again, indicating a lateral shift. You said, "It can be called lateral, but it is because of the rotation of the hips." Regardless of the reason, the hips shift left. If they didn't he'd hit a foot behind the ball.
