@Lizzzt I love Joe's tenor saxophone playing on the January 16 1940 date with George Wettling's Chicago Rhythm Kings. It's regrettable that he didn't record more often on that instrument.
Joe Marsala(my dad and the leader on this date) was well respected by his peers on both sides of the color line. His lower register on the clarinet, as well as his general tone on the horn was the envy of many clarinetists of his day, including the great Benny Goodman, who remarked, "If I had Joe's tone on the horn then I'd really be the king of jazz!"

Great to hear Pete Brown, an altoist with a truly original style.

What a blast from the past.
First heard this one in the early 1990's at a trading buddy's place. He wouldn't give it up, as it was his 11 year old daughter's favorite "oldie".
Pretty cool in that it features 1/2 of Tommy Dorsey's 1930's rhythm section in Mastren & Traxler.
Great cut.
