Second reverse trike build diary

This trike was built using the engine from a 2007 Yamaha FZ1. It has about 150 HP at the crank. The front and rear suspension are based upon Honda Accord and Honda Civic pieces. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for your inquiry. The primary advantage of the unequal length double A-arm suspension which I used is that the geometry permits the wheels to gain negative camber as the suspension compresses, thus keeping the outside tires perpendicular to the ground, enabling maximum cornering power. The VW trailing link design does quite the contrary. Due to the infinitely long swing arm length and roll center at ground level, body roll and camber loss are amplified.

what made you decide to stick the engine where you did?

Ive seen one seater crosskarts with the engine right next to the driver before but never a reverse trike setup.

Nice build but very odd setup...how well does it work?

Function outweighs form in my opinion so if it works well then its okay to look goofy.

It actually works very well. After my first trike, I set out to eliminate the use of a swingarm rear suspension and to shorten the vehicle overall. This one is 10 feet long, the first, 13 ft. The engine weighs just a little over 100 lbs, so when i have a passenger, it is nearly perfectly balanced side to side. I fitted fairly stiff springs, and with the front antisway bar, there is hardly any body roll. I'm very pleased with the performance. Thanks for looking.

Well engineered. Why over engineer? You could have just used a VW Beetle front suspension and saved a ton of time & money. All you would need to build would be a frame. The front suspension is a bolt on. Speedo is built into the left front hub. A rack&pinion from a dune buggy. Extended range, fatboy saddle tanks.

that's awesome! the side engine idea is perfect - I've been trying to figure out how to lay things out so I'm low but don't have 6' of bike behind me. Thanks for posting this!

Cool Build, Can you post some video of how you got the slave cylinder hooked up. What kind of slave cylinder did you use. I plan on doing the same thing on my reverse trike. It is also on youtube, fastest way to get to is to search RYNO TRIKE. thanks for any info
