nice video-beautiful. Did you guys have a boat to get to the Escalante Arm, paddle out there all the way,or did you launch from another nearby location? Heading out there in 2012, want to kayak this time.
Go wind Go Solar, well any way the video is great. I would love to go kayaking there sometime, but yeah the idea of going alone is not appealing to me. However maybe one day I will do it.
To those of you who think there is no life in the desert. You are wrong! (I mean life without people). Some of the critters you might not want to meet, but they are all fascinating.
I'm planning on paddling Glen Canyon/Lake Powell this spring, but I don't want to do a crazy trip by myself (and I will be by myself). Does anyone know any lauch spots near Cathedral in the Desert? I know there no roads that lead to the area to drive to it, save one dirt road but I don't know about the put ins. ANY information would be helpful. I called the Glen Canyon NRA, but they really didn't know. Thanks!
Glen Canyon Dam produces 3 percent of the grid. Originally used to supplement "peak demand fluctuations" the dam can no longer provide this due to its impact on Grand Canyon. Its a worthless relic of a political mistake. We only need one dam. But most important: THE DAM IS NOT GREEN! It has cause the extinction and endangerment of many endemic species in Grand Canyon as well as the collapse of the ecosystem in our precious "Wonder of the World".
Silty or muddy water is what a healthy desert river looks like. There were HUGE sandy beaches along the river. There were ZERO rapids in Glen Canyon. Plus if you pick flatwater over rapids then you have obviously never been whitewater rafting! WAHOOOO! All places in CG were reachable before.
the glen canyon damn produces enough electricity to provide about 650,000 persons in the region with household power. draining it is a stupid idea. sure we lost some natural beauties but we still have plenty of beautiful scenary. If we want to be green then we need the dam. i pick the lake too

its greener than a coal powered station isn't it?
besides, its the desert -there cant be that many species specific to that area
also i think it looks cool as a lake, nice video by the way!
i saw this on tv a few days a go and thought, wow, that looks fun to kayak in.
and as for the whitewater remark - yes its probably fun but whats wrong with some nice relaxing flat water???
and has anyone kayaked around the whole thing?
