My Response: Pakistan Blocking Youtube over Amsterdam video.

On Sunday, Pakistan blocked internet access to Youtube over a controversial video by a Dutch politician where he says negative things about Islam and Muslims.

The Associated Press article says two hours, I heard on television four hours. Who is correct?

Since Youtube (and it's parent company Google) generate so much money from webpage "hits," how could such a rich organization encounter such a problem by a country located on the other side of the world from it's headquarters?

And why back down to Pakistan?

Also, why is it so hard to use the "money gif" feature on Youtube, where I can create gifs to advertise myself, and thus bring in some revenue for myself.

Could this not be made easier? (And I have a college degree!)

Back to the larger issue, freedom of speech across international lines.

JuicyCampus.com is also big in the news for it's very open-ended forum where people can post and read all sorts of things about their campus, even libel statements.

To me, the solution to both dilemnas is simple: "Block."

Pakistan can block Youtube, or ban the website, or tell it's citizens about the offensive video and give instructions to avoid it. (Or even "block" the video.)

The same can happen for colleges/universities and Juicy Campus.

(Interestingly, Juicy Campus instructs users on how to maintain their anonymity and erase/cover-up their IP address.)
