The owner's manual says 30-32mm chain deflection, but the shop manual says 20-22mm. Since my S2R came from the factory with a little over 20mm I'm thinking the owner's manual is wrong and the shop manual is right.

I prefer the chain to be somewhat slack, and definitely lean towards a minimum slack of an inch (25mm). A great rule of thumb I've found with Ducatis is that you want to slacken the chain enough so that it comes close to but doesn't touch the plastic guard on the bottom of the swingarm. The back of that guard is about the perfect location to set tension...
