@LifesonFan4Life , this is an alternative version for a radio-ready edit. The album version was too long for the single, and also too long for this event. I believe the vocals are slightly different for the same reason.
You are right, though about the quality of this group when they perform live, they are phenomenal.
Have you heard Chris' solos on the 1987 All The Way Live videos? They are better than the studio recordings. He was really switched on.
@GoofyBCN , for a television event such as this, it is too difficult to set up a band for a truly live performance. It is much easier and more cost-effective to set up for a lip-synch performance, especially when there are many groups performing on a limited number of stages in a short period of time. This is very common practice and makes practical and financial sense. This band sound fantastic when they do perform live, they only synched because they had to at this particular event.
No, it's definitely a studio version you're hearing. It's just a different solo, probably a radio-ready version. The guitar you can hear is actually a customised red Gibson Spirit with a black scratchplate and a Kahler tremolo. Chris' 1956 Les Paul goldtop sounds NOTHING like it. This is a synch, although I won't hold it against them - they put on a great show. I transcribe Chris' guitar parts as a hobby and build replicas of his instruments. I know every instrument and solo inside out.
I dont think it is .. Chris Hayes solo is not the same as the studio versions .. they're that good live folks .. even Huey's vocals are slightly different than the studio version
This is a mixed performance. not entirely lip sync, but definitely not entirely live...Where exactly is the saxophone chorus (one can easily hear an alto, tenor and bari-sax in the solo), not to mention note for note and sound quality that matches 45 version of this song. Something's not right.
