MaximsNewsNetwork: 29 January 2010: - UNICEF: Soweto, South Africa - Argentinean soccer legend Diego Maradona visits school children at Selelekele Secondary School in Soweto as part of ongoing efforts by the South Africa government and UNICEF to encourage sport to help children build confidence and learn life skills.

In the shadow of the ultra modern Orlando stadium in Soweto, South Africa, the pupils of the modest Selelekele secondary school endure a rainy day.

They are quiet and patient; but distracted by the imminent arrival of one of the worlds greatest soccer players, Diego Maradona.

As the Argentinean entourage arrives, the rain lets up and some lucky scholars receive souvenirs.

UNICEF, who helped to organise the visit, recognizes the critical role of sport and physical play in childrens lives.

The sports activities at the school are part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Education to use sport to help children build confidence and learn life skills.

The Argentinean coach takes some time to practice tricks with the enthusiastic soccer players of Selelekele Secondary.

While the famed football player teases his opponents like he once did in the blue-and-white stripes of his country, the South African kids impress him with some moves of their own.

Maradonas visit, like the FIFA 2010 world cup matches to be played in the giant stadium alongside them, have inspired many youngsters throughout Africa.
