  • Pathfinder's Golarion world has glossy production which masks a lazy, unimaginative and derivative world replete with howling cliches. Golarion is a toe-curlingly obvious pastiche of Europe/Africa/Near East with races, countries and names barely shifted from 'real world history'. Howard did this in the 30s with his Hyborian Age. A world with a snowy north a desert south and a Chinese East(!!??). We used to laugh about such laziness in creating fantasy worlds back in the 80s! Where originality??

  • Only 32.25 US with free shipping on Amazon!

  • Thanks for linking my review, though I must admit I hadn't seen yours until I was about to post it.

  • Good job with the review. 5,000 years that's a lot of history. Seems they did a lot of thinking.

  • I agree, I've just started really digging into mine but so far everything I've read is awesome.

My only criticism is that there is too much art. Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but I'd rather have more content. When compared to the old Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (tighter font, smaller margins, much less art, etc) this book probably has half the content at almost the same page count. But as I said, I love it. As you say, 4/4 no doubt.

  • I love fantasy settings, I should pick this up it sounds like. :)

  • @foxcell I just picked up the Castles & Crusades Player's Guide. I played a 1-shot at a convention, and it was a lot of fun. It seems to be a nice compromise between old school and modern games.

  • MSRP in the US is $49.99, but it can be had for $31.50 on amazon

  • Amodeus is the devil?! lol ... I think you mean Asomodeus! =P Great review, your enthusiasm really shines through!

  • I had a look at this in Forbidden Planet today very in depth campaign. Nice artwork as well I would like to try pathfinder after seeing your review on the game yesterday. At the moment I’m waiting for castles & crusades Games masters’ book to come out. I have pre ordered the box set plus pathfinder is said to release a basic game this year so I might buy that when it comes out.
