At least 100,000 people converged on the capitol square in Madison, Wisconsin on March 12, in the largest protest yet against Governor Scott Walker's attack on workers' democratic rights and benefits.

Walker signed the "budget repair" bill into law Friday, after a surprise vote by the State Senate, which many Wisconsin residents called illegal. The bill rolls back collective bargaining rights, outlaws strikes, and cuts workers's pay by ten to tweleve percent.

In this video, Wisconsin workers speak on the general strike as a response to Governor Scott Walker's attacks on workers' rights, and the implications of social inequality for democracy.

  • YES, THIS IS INSANE!

FRANCE AND EUROPE SUPPORTS YOUR FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS!

  • Listen to that nurse. She lost her job of nearly 40 years and couldn't find another nursing job IN ANY STATE because she's at the top of her pay scale. She said many of the openings stated a preference for 0 to 1 year's experience. THINK ABOUT THAT. THAT'S what this is all about. Repression of wages. Repression of rights. Gov't sucking up to corporations instead of for the people. It's been going on for 30 years.

TIME FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS TO FIGHT BACK!!

  • Why am I not surprised to see a grey ponytail?

  • @nokiddingable Unfortunately, there's a large fascist movement in America called the "Tea Party" that hates the ideas of workers rights. :(

  • GENERAL STRIKE IS YOUR LAST CHANCE, THEY WILL GO AROUND ANY DEMOCRATIC RULES THE PEOPLE MAKE, THEY ALREADY DID, GENERAL NATIONWIDE STIKE, MORTGAGE STRIKE, TAX STRIKE ACROSS THE NATION. THEY DONT PAY TAXES, THEY HAVE HUGE BOUNUS' FROM BAILOUTS YOU PAID FOR OUT YOUR TAXES. GENERAL STRIKE APRIL 4TH, GENERAL STRIKE APRIL 4TH, THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE, THEY WILL MAKE YOU WORK AND MAKE YOUR POOR, LAST CHANCE.

  • @brainvomit The technicalities of what their headgear is called is irrelevant. What planet are you on where welders earn $100,000 year? That's higher than the average Wisconsin income.

Is this kind of like the estimated $7.5 million it was supposed to cost to clean up the tape off of the capitol walls? You could probably use a re-education in math and statistics. And using Google.

  • @Dumbbell, Welders don't wear face masks, if they are using an arc welder they wear a helmet that is designed to protect their face and their head. If they are using gas, they were goggles, Welding is not a dangerous occupation unless the person using the device is careless. Depending on skill level, an experienced welder can earn over $100,000 per year, before he pays taxes and contributes to his own 401K plan and health insurance. Unlike the union filth you are defending.

  • @OBAMASTINKSLIKEANAPE Oh, so you know this guy. I'm surprised. I had you pegged for an ignorant name-calling republican who knew nothing about people that actually work for a living.

Do you know why there is a shortage of skilled welders? Because nobody wants to do dangerous work for nothing. Why didn't you become a welder?

Also, I don't believe you'd recognize a welder if he walked up and hit you with his face mask. Don't try and tell me you actually consort with those types.

  • @katydahling All the welders that I know are at work welding because there is a shortage of skilled welders. That clown is an SEIU stooge who never worked a day in his life.

  • @OBAMASTINKSLIKEANAPE I bet it feels good to drink champagne you paid for with the tax money you took from these union workers. That welder won't be able to send his kids to college now. Think about that for a while you lay on your fluffy pillow-top mattress getting fatter and stupider.

  • Scott Walker lied his way into office. Now he must go. He's just a mouth piece for unscrupulous companies that want to dodge there fair share of taxes on the backs of average people. And have us all live like third world country's. Going backward in pay. Instead of forward. Support Americans buy USA at stores and on line at Made in USA. Demand it
