Protect Our Parks (http://www.protectourparks.org) has been fighting the construction of an artificial turf soccer field in the heart of Chicago's Lincoln Park. The facility was the result of a secret sweetheart deal between the Park District and the wealthy, elite private Latin School. POP sued to expose and halt this privatization of public space and won - but the city decided to complete the illegally started project anyway. No required site or environmental studies were done because the site was selected solely to benefit the nearby Latin School. Among the studies NOT done where assessments on the safety and health hazards posed by the synthetic playing surface. This newsclip looks at some of the issues - but NOTE - it does NOT address the potential hazards of the rubber crumb which is the base material that anchors the synthetic blades.

  • so... since they put those fields off limit, they are encouraging kids to stay inside and play video games rather than going outside and playing on the field.

  • Wow, im surprised they let their children play with plastic lego....

I swear some people complain about everything.

  • @GagaChiTown your just jealous, hows your turf field huh?

  • hahahaha this is why latin sucks

  • fuck however did this video

  • everyone is retarded of course you can find bad stuff in turf fields but unless you are going to eat it nothing is going to happen

  • These people are pussies. I've been playing at the field at River park for about 3 years now and nothing has ever happened to me. These parents are too damn protective.

  • Our turfs don't require rubber infill. For sports we use a different environmental infill.Rubber is the past!
