Have you seen the ORIGINAL? This totally SUCKS. They way he steps out into the crowd, the heart-tugging music. Redgrave's tight little clipped voice was so perfect. This Shakespearean manner of working every phrase and gesture for over the top emotion makes me queasy.

Ah, please? For many, credits are not an optional element of art, of films.
Credits are essential to a large number of YouTubers. Each reader of a play and audience member of a performance uniquely experiences art, even while we read the same words and watch the same actors. I depend on credits. The movie ends with their end.
Thank you, renzyrenzyrenzy, for posting this video. Crying at first watch is an experience you share with thousands of thankful viewers.
Please?

I saw the B and W version of this film ( with Michael Redgrave ) when I was in High School Cert. at R.C.P.L, Port-Louis, Mauritius in 1954 . I still think it is one of the best films I have ever seen. It is about what makes a man a man. It is about culture and civilization. It is about values, human decency and human dignity. It is a film that should be shown to all high school boys because our society is losing its moral compass.
Let us not forget the playwright, Terence Rattigan.

Aaahh too bad that you did not put up the ending , with such beautiful music that gets cut off like that ruins the effect intended. Thanks for posting anyway. Extraordinary film.

@porcospino289 I agree and no Latin in the speech because nobody understands it any more. How sad.

Both Redgrave and Finney gave this story something different, making their version of this outstanding story special and very moving to watch.

There are characterizations so good that it is impossible for us to imagine someone else doing it. This is indeed one of those.

Good grief. I couldn't believe how bad this was compared to the Redgrave scene. Everything about this version is far worse. Don't even watch this. Watch the 1951 version. "Hitler" for "Himmler"?? Presumably because they thought people in 1990 would not know who Himmler was....

do you want it?
please put up the ending where he takes his robe off and the end credits, that's the best part.
