First start of Toyota 22R motor for 1981 restoration

First run of Toyota motor after "restoring" motor back to new. A 1981 22R with about 134K miles taken down to the short block, derusted and painted black. The head was cleaned with new valve seals and original cam shaft and valves. All gaskets replaced with new including head gasket. Maintenance items replaced: new factory fuel pump, water pump, plugs, wires, cap/rotor- new pickup tube & oil pan and new hardware. All engine brackets were sand blasted and painted black. Still need to find an insulator set for the exhaust manifold and more clean up of the plated hardware. Runs great though, good oil pressure and does not overheat.

nothing serious I hope. I would guess a heat shield or the radiator shroud is still a little loose and vibrating.

Got it! The nuts for the air injection pipes were not tight at the reed valve assy.

@doug48858 Sounded more like a loose exhaust from the metallic sound. Not that much of a problem, just a bit annoying.

@doug48858 thanks for that info!! I have an 86 that makes the same intermittent buzzing noise. I have been looking for the answer for a long time.

Don't forget to check the valve lash after the first couple thousand miles on a rebuild. It could save you a lot of headaches.
