They are coastal patrol frigates in fact.
I worked with BAE surface ships while they fitted them out. (Im at VT).
Turns out they were too fast, nearly twice as fast as the other ships they were planned to operate with (35kts + vs 20kts for their existing fleet). They were also equipped with complex anti air and over the horizon radar which it turned out the semi-literate sailors of their Navy could barely understand the CONCEPT of, let alone operate.

@ROOSTER1067 Check out Nakhoda Ragam class corvette for their specs. (They were classed as Frigates when I worked on them and they certainly have the firepower to be classed as such)
I think the reason they are not accepted by RN is because their armament of Exocet and Seawolf is being phased out as the older RN ships that carried them are scrapped.
Its probably cheaper to buy new ships rather than refit these for the newer vertical launch types that are all the rage at the moment.
