The Bohemian Girl is an opera composed by Michael William Balfe with a libretto by Alfred Bunn. The plot is loosely based on a Cervantes tale, La Gitanilla.

The opera was first produced in London at the Drury Lane Theatre on November 27, 1843. The production ran for 100 nights and enjoyed many revivals worldwide including: New York (25 November 1844), Dublin (1844), Philadelphia (1844) and Vienna (in German, 1846). Since World War 2 it has been staged by the Arts Theatre, Belfast (1978) and by Opera South in Haslemere in England (2008)

  • Sometimes I wonder if I DREAMED you, Bob! This is another of those old ballads that I thought never, never to hear again. Thank you for this abolutely perfect treasure from the past. I am deeply, deeply grateful.

  • @olderngod

I had a feeling you would like this one Mona. This is a rather recent addition to my collection. I found this over Christmas and was very pleased with it. Glad to see you like this one too.

  • My introduction to this beautiful song - by a son of Dublin City - was through a friend who had a Glen Miller recording of it. My love of this song is so profound that my daughter purchased an Enya CD which includes song. Her rendition of it is really beautiful - as is this one by Grace Kerns. I adore it, and I thank you for sharing it.

I have added this one to my "Favourites" list.
