One of the reasons why The Exorcist is so good is because unlike most horror movies, it was based on a book, so it was well written to start with.

IF there was one thing I would change about the exorcist it's the Demon's name, giving the Demon a name took away a lot of the mystery, let the audience guess at the Demon's backstory, is it the Devil Himself or one of his minions, or a ghost that haunts the house. The Exorcist is scary because it focuses on our worst fear: The Monster Within
