    what's really crazy is that the worms take over and force the insect to seek water (possibly through forced dehydration), so the worm can kill the host and swim away easily to it's next victim. evolution is cray.

    It is a gordian worm (Paragordius tricuspidatus) leaves its cricket host (Nemobius sylvestris). These kind of parasites change the behaviour of the animal that they live in. It actually made the cricket think to go into the water so that it could release itself! Normally a cricket would not go and swim into the water like the way it did in this video.
