Skeeter Davis sings 'I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know' live at the Grand Ole Opry in 1961. This song has been a #1 country hit for The Davis Sisters (Skeeter and Betty Jack Davis) in 1953 and was written by Cecile Null.

  • WOW! Why the heck isn't she in the Country Music Hall of Fame? She was the first WOMAN to receive a GRAMMY in the Country world!!! What more?

  • @LastTree Actually, Skeeter received 5 Grammy nominations but never got one, which is a disgrace! She's the best.

  • Thanks for reposting this mbts1. We should start a campaign to get Skeeter into the Country Music Hall of Fame. It makes a mockery of the place that she isn't in it. Her rich country voice should be enough even if she hadn't blazed the trail for today's female artists.....which she did. I understand that she could be difficult to work with, as many perfectionists can be, so that may be holding her out. Just "The End of the World" should be enough to get her in.

  • @walletboyKS difficult to work with? As far as I know thats not the case. Chet Atkins even said once that 'magic' occurred when he worked with Skeeter in the studio! As for the Hall of Fame.. That seems to be difficult. For some reason they keep on 'ignoring' her. I dunno what could change their minds.. Its almost like politics: impossible.

  • @manbehindthescreen1 U are so right! Politics as in the power of egotistic ex Ralph Emery. She should have made it long before Jean Sheperd(no offense intended) and some of the male artists that have been inducted. She should be in the Hall of Fame twice once as The Davis Sisters and then her on career. I do not understand how they can leave her out.

  • may her soul R.I.P, Skeeter music will never die

  • I always thought her vocals were so much better on this one than "End of the World." JMO. R.I.P. Skeeter...

  • she is a Brilliant Singer.

  • @LastTree Dottie West was actually the first lady in country music to win a grammy

  • @walletboyKS I feel the same it's disgusting the way Skeeter Davis is ignored, I hope her and Dottie West get inducted soon.

  • My mom grew up listening to this. Fortunately she shared it with me. This brings back great memories that I have with my mother. Thanks for sharing.
