Hello~
So tonight I took the challenge to make my very own bento box out of what I could find in my house, and this is what I came up with. It actually turned out fantastic! The marinated chicken tastes delicious, though took a little bit of time because of the boiling I had to do to make it that way. Try using drumstick meat for yourself sometime like I did in this video, the meat was just perfect when it was finished, and had a nice authentic Japanese flavor even if I just used Yoshida sauce, mixed with soy sauce, sugar and a pinch of salt.
As for the veggies in the top compartment, that is pretty much free for you to use for whatever you want. You can put potato salad in there, sliced apples (or 'Usagi Ringo') or anything else you might want in there! What's nice about the top compartment is it comes with its own little lid so you can store food in there and it won't effect the main course under it.

For the grilled chicken you need the following:
1 Drumstick, or frozen chicken breast*
About 1/4 cup of Mr. Yoshida Sauce
A pinch of sugar
1 Tablespoon Soy Sauce

For the steamed rice, you just need any white rice and a pinch of salt and sugar for cooking. If you do not have a rice cooker you can use a pot with water.

The veggies in the top compartment are up to you, but I like carrots and coleslaw lettuce with thousand island dressing.

NOTE:
*if you are using the frozen chicken breast, check out my video on how to make my rice bowl with marinated chicken on my homepage, I use a grill and a piece of chicken breast instead of a drumstick. Use the same marinade that I use in this video on the grill.

Dedicated to my friend Snager80, who could probably come up with a better bento then me, haha.

  • This is a great video! But the music at the end scared me =.= lol I wasn't expecting it >< ..Soo loud! But awesome video! So helpful! Thanks! ^^;

  • thats nasty to have your cat on the counter while your cooking i dont care if its clean or not and its on your counter and every thing hovering over the food

  • everything is so yellow

  • Too many lights #_#

  • THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE IDEAS!!!!and nice video!(-3-)/

  • @kanokobo not really, you cool it off because if you pack it while it's hot the moisture is going to be locked in which is going to make the food inside go bad. you it in a normal temp

  • This was so helpful. ^.^

But if you wait for the food to cool off before putting it in the box, do you eat it cold?

Also, where did you buy your bento box? Is it 3 tier?

  • OvO oh my gosh yayayyyyayayyayyyyy!!! thank you so much!!! i am so happy somebody finnaly did a video with western ingredents!

  • I bet the chicken would taste even better if you marinate it over night. It'd be really delicious...
