A few of my subscribers asked to see the basics of playing Warhammer 40K. This is the beginning of a 5 or 6 part series that talks about just the very basics of 40K rules.

Warhammer 40K is an exceptions based rule system. By that I mean that there are some core rules, but the various codexes have units that are exceptions to those rules. There is only so much we can go over and review in these videos, but they will go into as much detail as possible.

If there is something that I have said incorrectly, please send me a PM or post a comment. I want this to be a learning tool for new players.

One thing these videos will not go into is close combat assault. We hope to cover that in a follow on video.

This is only part 1.

  • Hi Guys, Dave from Australia here, these video's have been a great help to me & my son, thanks heaps!

  • @Daveydee72 Thanks for watching and commenting!!! Glad they helped.

  • Is it Required that you have an Assault Sqaud and 2 Heavy support vehicles or is that just optional?

  • @KEVzzzilla Only thing required in 5th edition is 1 HQ and 2 Troop choices.... everything else is optional.

  • @doremicom so i can hav like 5 elite squad and 4 heavy support????

  • @FoolHunter8462 Sorry no, but there's a difference between required and limited to. you are limited to a max 2 HQ, 6 Troop, 3 of everything else. Unless you're playing Apocalypse which has no force org requirements/limitations.

  • @SableDement Hey man, not sure if you've found stuff out yet, but the Necrons veery recently got an update with some pretty cool stuff going on!

Also, the Black Reach set is a great way to start as it gives you everything you need to start playing games of 40K right away, if I were just starting I'd definitely pick it up! Hope this helped

  • thanks dude this helped alot

  • Ive been thinking about getting into warhammer because I love the lore and think it would be a great way to increase my nerd levels. Would it be worth my money to buy that start up kit that comes with the space marines and orks because it comes with a rule book (i think) and some just starting out units, or just learn the rules online or buying the rule book from amazon? I want to play necrons but from what Ive heard, their codex is pretty dated. Is that necessarily a bad thing?

  • thats really lucky that everything else is optional because of my 6 HQ choices

  • 8 people that watched this video were Orks

  • @doremicom When you rool the dice at the start of the game what are the different missions to play with and what are the different types of deploys and thank you this video helps alot
