This is last time we saw HINCH on Channel 7. The program started on HSV7 as HINCH AT 7 in 1988 and eventually went national. It was axed in November 1991 in favour of a new current affairs show which was put into the 6.30 timeslot to follow Seven Nightly News the following year.

Before TV... Derryn Hinch was on Melbourne radio station 3AW. He started with the radio station in 1979 and went on to become the King of Melbourne radio -- with the highest morning ratings ever achieved then or now.

When 7 axed HINCH the program was picked up by Channel 10 only to be axed a couple of years later in favour of Alan Jones Live.

After TV Derryn went back to radio with stints at 5DN Adelaide, 2GB Sydney and back to 3AW as nightline host in 2000. He was dropped from that spot only to return to drive in 2003 where he remains today. Love him or hate him - as Derryn would say "That's Life!"

  • I remember this like it was all yesterday

  • Its a bit off the subject, but its interesting to note that the CGI animation from about 20 years ago still looks good by even modern standards.

  • @MicMogul It will

  • bye finch

  • This opening script could very well be reused without much change in his final days if the liver cancer does claim him.

  • I remember being a kid and thinking that Hinch started really late at night

  • #1 non Hamish & Andy show in Melbourne radio ratings.

  • this guy dug up some classic stories, the funniest and most memorable for me was when he exposed a guy faking blindness compo and they put a 20 dollar note on the footpath ahead of him and filmed him stopping, looking around and then picking it up before going on his blind way,if anyone has a copy of this story on tape I'd love to hear from you

  • The most memorable story I remember from this series was when they exposed a guy claiming a work related condition caused blindness and they planted a 20 dollar bill on the footpath in front of him to see if he would pick it up,he did and got sprung.....seriously would love to see that footage again,if anyone has it put it on youtube,it was hilarious

  • too bad he died of alcoholism, not a nice way to go

  • Shame, Shame, Shame
