Alan Rickman talks about playing Eamon de Valera in the 1996 film "Michael Collins". Sorry about the quality, but the audio is just fine.

  • i think he got persuaded to the irish view of it and is feeling sympathy for us wanting our freedom i like himhes a good baddy in robin hood and harry potter but a better good guy go on dev lol

  • his voice is so sweet, and the smile at the end so nice...wonderful Alan Rickman!!

  • ...and if it wasn't for de Valera, the Irish Free State would of been active long after 1937, and caused more negative impact than positive. Though Collins was a fundemental part of Irish indepedence, de Valera done more good than he did bad.

  • If he looked anything like Dev, than Dev must have been pretty dag on sexy!

  • maybe because dev was a vilian he caused a civil war for his own polictical amitions and he was corupt. he marginalised irish society and made the country piss poor with his policys and allowed the church to take over! dev was a soppy yank and most irish ppl hate him. collins was and always will be!! the true hero.

  • I thought he was very good, he really did very well with Dev's funny Limerick accent and when I watched it I thought he got DeValera's personality and mannerisms across very well.

  • even though this is a great movie it is INCREDIBLY biased towards collins..they made him out to be a huge hero and dev to be the villian..although i do respect collins for what he did dev did as much if not more for ireland then collins

  • He was perfectly suited to this role! He played it wondefully!

  • Rickmans accent is from London, he is not irish.

But he looked like Dev a lot. I found him

    great.
