With LCD TVs you can have the same display problems for different reasons. If a loose ribbon cable can produce a rainbow effect of vertical lines then so can a bad solder connection on the T-con board connector. Pinpointing an exact cause and effect can be difficult.
This video is designed to give people a general idea as to what's wrong with your LCD TV but don't assume your results will be the same. Hopefully others will add their repair histories in the comment section of this video.

  • Dave,

I have a Sanyo DP46848. When my LCD TV is cold it has half black screen on either sides of the TV,but if you hit the TV the screen clears for a few minutes, it will half screen again and if you hit it it goes away.Once the TV plays for 30-45 minutes, the problem ceases completely. This problem has become worse the longer I own the TV,a year ago the screen would only go half black for 1 minute, then stop. I replaced the T-Con board in the unit and it did not fix the issue. Any suggestions???

  • @jdcrase It might be a light or an inverter Problem. If your inverter board has any electrolytic or Polypropylene capacitors you might want to test them and see if they are

    off value.

  • Dave, I have a 40" RCA LCD TV. It's about 2 1/2 years old. Almost a year ago it started to get a dark (or shaded) spot in the lower right corner. It becomes more noticeable during some scenes and less during others depending on the colors being shown. Any ideas? Some kind of dust build up perhaps? I hate to purchase a new TV. Thanks in advance.

  • @mrtalbot81 Perhpas one of the CCFLs isn't lighting up properly due to an inverter problem or perhaps a lamp problem but this is just a guess.

  • If you go to my website at TV REPAIR INFO . COM you should find a video or Two on Vizio TVs that might help you. Here is a video that might help. watch?v=y9gmAxRXyT0

  • Dave I am hoping you have some ideas. I have an APEX LCD 4688 I bought Xmas 2010 that just went out (1year and 1 month after purchase, hmmmm). The power indicator light at the bottom right of the TV is on but there is no sound or picture. Apex is now owned by another company and the rep was not surprised of the problem but could not tell me what was wrong, he was also chuckling during the conversation at points which indicated a very common issue and no solution. Fixable or paperweight?

  • @520littlebit I can't say if your TV is repairable, but did you try some of the tests I show on my website at TV REPAIR INFO . COM ?

  • Hi Dave,

Odd problem. Have a Vizio Vo42l fhdtv10a flat screen LCD. Was working fine. Went away for 2 days, when I came back I went to turn it on and all I got was a black screen with sound. I tried other ports same problem. The amber light lights when it is plugged in and changes white when I turn on the power. ( so 5 vdc is ok) how can I troubleshoot to determine on what board the problem is. PS, inverter, or main.
