A short video showing Engineer Nick Bennett and my whistle signatures. We are coasting backwards downhill through the Cumberland Narrows. The whistle is a Hancock 3-chime on Western Maryland Scenic 2-8-0 #734. The first part is me and the second part is Nick. I think its safe to say that mine got blown out of the water.

  • wait im confused, is the 734 still running today?

  • yes it is, its just the WMSR off season.

  • Man that was awesome how I love the 734 wish I can go and see her run again.. Spooler this is the big fat guy that went down with Colin back in 07'. lol

  • Yeah, you need to make another trip down this way.

  • Not many can fire a steam train and take a video for youtube

  • Just coasting backward downhill the only thing you have to do is keep the fire hot and water in the boiler. So I had plenty of time to mess around with my video camera.

  • @GooglFascists This still is a job.. This isnt "playing trains..." They get paid to work, and to maintain these engines... Are you saying the older generation never had fun with whistles? You talk about Galford... Artie Barkley, Richard Carter, Clyde Galford all did their jobs, BUT all had whistle arms in which they created music on the whistle cord. Barkley and Carter would go up to Gum curve at night and they would screw around with them and make them talk, this is the same purpose...

  • @CassFan5150 I agree with 4freespeech. After hearing those old engineers

with their own whistle styles back in the day who did it for A JOB, instead of

"playing trains", this is definitely an instant soft-on.

If you visited Cass, WV back in the 60s when old timers like Clyde Galford on

Engine #4 were still on the job they'd raise chill bumps all over you with their

whistle artistry. This is just so much goof off.

  • @4freespeech Really? You are crazy not to realize how much better the whistle sounds, without a simple on off switch.. Damn....

  • Amazing how 2 dumb teenagers can kill off 80 years of historic nostalgia

in less than 2 minutes of jacking around with a whistle cord.

  • now the engineer just totally killed the fireman, his skill on the whistle cord is awsome, and the whistle has a great sound

  • I got two cabrides in the 734 :) it was AMAZING!!!

  • Damn Nick is good!

  • @Spooler734 There's never too much whistling!!

  • @Spooler734 ok i see, just wanted to be sure, i really want to see this locomotive again, haven't seen it in 9 years.
