You might cringe at the thought of sitting in a bus for 22 hours? Traveling long distance in Peru can be pretty comfortable if you open your wallet and pay a little extra. Imagine sitting in an oversized leather seat that reclines 160 degrees, served a hot dinner, light breakfast and watching movies on an overhead television. Traveling around 800 miles will cost you around $ 45.00 USD each way.
Often I will travel using the cheaper seats (semi-bed) on short runs of 10 hours or less. But my body thanks me for spending the extra money for the long runs. Nothing worse than arriving at your destination with a tormented back.
There are many bus companies to choose from in Peru, South America and Expreso Cial is a pretty good choice for price and comfort. The video gives you a brief glimpse into one of Expreso Cial's Lima terminals and a view of the bus. The terminal is very modern with a cafeteria. The buses are double Decker, with the economical seats (semi-bed) on the upper level and the luxury seats (full-bed) on the bottom floor.
All passengers are served hot meals and drinks. Plus your seat comes with a pillow and blanket. The big difference with the luxury seats is leg space and ergonomics of the seat design. Plus the climate control and lighting is better in the luxury seating area.
Security is very tight and a video will be taken of you once you are seated. The bus usually has around 3 stewards to look after the passengers.
