This weekend, a local national trust property is holding its Annual Apple festival.
When I first performed there I had researched the story of Johnny Appleseed, a folk legend who roamed America planting apple seeds. I went to the festival and explained the story.
I wondered what would happen today if Johnny was to reappear and roam the world planting his apples in areas of famine and 'fruitless' conflict.
Do join in the song and enjoy a tasty apple this weekend - you could even try recycling the pips!
The song is original but the images, including the great little 'Johnny Appleseed, are googled.
Hey Johnny Appleseed what this world does need
Is another little guy like you
With your apple seed all the world you'd feed
Just think what you could do!
You could roam the earth in that kettle hat
Land managed, not land-mined.
Trenches to guide the flood not to fill with blood
Warfare left behind.
Hey Johnny Appleseed what this world does need
Is another little guy like you
With your apple seed all the world you'd feed
Just think what you could do!
Trees will grow and spread branches overhead
Then blossom followed by fall
Fruit to feed and fill, not to bleed and kill
Enough to feed us all
Hey Johnny Appleseed what this world does need
Is another little guy like you
With your apple seed all the world you'd feed
Just think what you could do!
People of the world could see they're a variety
Each with its special name
Just like you and me in our society
But really they're all the same
Hey Johnny Appleseed what this world does need
Is another little guy like you
With your apple seed all the world you'd feed
Just think what you could do!
Hey Johnny will you please plant those apple trees
Just like you did before
When those apples fall there'll be food for all
And we won't want for more
Thanks Jamie. Glad you liked it.

Hey Geoff, this is a great song! I remember when I was a little kid at summer camp we used to sing a song about Johnny Applesead like a prayer every morning before breakfast! The words went like this, "The Lord is good to me, and so I thank the Lord, for giving me the things I need, the sun and the rain and the apple sead. The Lord is good to me!"

@guitmartiman - Thanks Jack. I researched the Johnny Appleseed story as I was going to work at a local stately home during an Apple Festival a few years ago. Its funny but most children the U.K. know a bit of the story thanks to Lisa Simpson!
