It's not that people are "anti-science" or "against logic". This argument by dprjones uses two techniques.

1) Derision - Using an emphasis on ridicule to assail a premise or argument.

2) Invalid syllogism - A syllogism is a major premise, minor premise and valid conclusion such as: All virtues are laudable, kindness is a virtue; therefore kindness is laudable.

Why is he using these arguments? Because theists do. Through derision, he is pointing out weaknesses in theist thought process.

There is nothing bold about understanding the world as non material - that you see it as material is an illusion. State change? We're not talking about boiling water and watching it evaporate I hope.
