By breaking the Israeli siege and blockade of Gaza, the Free Gaza movement showed the world that individuals can act against injustice. This revelation is supremely important at a time individuals, particularly those living in Western democracies, feel diminished and intimidated by governments exploiting the so-called "war on terror" to stifle criticism of their policies, notably those pursued in this volatile region.
Free Gaza's activists not only sailed through Israel's naval blockade of the strip, breaching its blockade and siege, they also delivered 200 hearing aids to deaf children without securing the approval of the Israeli occupation authorities which routinely block the flow of medical equipment and other essential goods.

The activists bucked the US-Israeli imposed ban on contact with Gaza's de facto Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas. Following in the honourable footsteps of former US president Jimmy Carter, they met with him over lunch on Sunday. This event demonstrated that dialogue is better than ostracism and the imposition of sanctions which usually harm ordinary people more than their rulers.
On Monday, the 20-metre Free Gaza, a Greek island-hopping ferry, and 25 activists went fishing with several Gaza fishermen, breaking an Israeli taboo on going further out to sea than six nautical miles. The boats hosting activists pushed out the envelope, enabling the fishermen to cast their nets nine miles from shore and breaching the Israeli-imposed line by 50 per cent.

Over the past two years, 14 Gaza fishermen have lost their lives plying their trade off the coast and catches have been halved due to Israeli restrictions. Furthermore, by limiting Gaza's fishing fleet to six miles, Israel guarantees that some of the fish on the market in the strip could be tainted with pollution from sewage pouring into the sea because there is no fuel to power the treatment facilities.

  • No, only opposing the RIGHT of "israel" to exist will ever end this. Anything elese is endorsing this. These activists are ALLOWED into Israel/Gaza to protest because fundamentally they SUPPORT the right of Israel to exist, the RECOGNISE the right of ISrael to exist. If otherwise, and they had eminent sophists on their boards, they would be blown out of the water before they even set anchor.

  • The activists were 'allowed' to cross the illegal blockade because of the added bad publicity if not. 'Recognition of Israel' is just a pretext for cruelty against the people of Gaza. If not: a new ship is almost underway with people who all support Israel's rights. ;-)

  • @ChoiceJJ i just did, supposedly a new jersey woman saw through binoculars from her apartment building in new jersey, now that 's not such a stretch, but the fact that she claims she wrote down their license plate # from that distance, unless she had a high powered telescope that 's impossible. It's just another bull shit story.

  • @55miche55

Google for the 'White Van' story.

  • @Focoist911 Ah it was Israel that attacked the twin towers on 9/11, funny you say so because I don't recall seeing any Israelis dancing in the streets after those attacks, only Arabs.

  • FREE GAZA..................FROM HAMAS!

The only reason the palestines suffer in Gaza is because of their

so called "heroes" Hamas doesnt give a shit about them!

FUCKING START REALIZING WHOS THE REAL TERRORIST!

  • Free Palestine from terrorists of hamASS ! God bless Israel !

  • "per Geneva Convention Laws of War; which Israel is bound by law to follow" - Israel doesn't follow any international convention. They write their own laws dailey and they do not obey the laws of cattle goy. You really need to wake up to what these scum are taught about the world of non-jews from birth.

For example, would 9/11 be a breach of Geneva? Well if so, then why the fuck did Israel think they had the right to do 9/11?

  • a military blockade prevents resupply and movement of enemy forces. All civilians, aide, and noncombatants cannot be attacked per Geneva Convention Laws of War; which Israel is bound by law to follow because they are a part of the UN. Iranian boat containing 200 tons of aid was allowed in teh other day as well.
