  • Shug - I,m sitting in Scotland, writing out my shopping list -Superb channel - Cant say how much I have raved about this to my brother - - I SAY this Hammock man, is using a MINI ATOMIC that only weights half an ounce! (no one in Scotland has heard of such a thing)- But I have a question - there is a new OHM 2.0 ruc sack - its a little heavier, and more bucks - what do you think -stick to the tried an tested - WE ARE GETTING BACK IN THE WOODS MY MAN!- Thanks

  • @Shugeblazen1 Love your moniker!!!! The new OHM has a wider hip-belt. Mine fits well but some folks needed a bit more on the sides. Same good ol' pack though.

Good on the Mini-Atomic.....terrific wee burner. I heard Shug is Scottish for Hugh.

  • Aye...Shug,means Hugh..and Hugh is allegedly ""from an old Germanic word "hug" meaning heart or mind or spirit. It was brought to Scotland by the Normans and it has been popular for a long time ...".

....Maybe the Normans were into a little "breakfast ffrom the Hammock". Petzl Tikka ordered from Amazon. Over n out.

  • @phrankus2009 It has not happened. Sorry. If it were I have a plan in my head. Trapping is difficult but I have studied books on it....but in the event I get stuck I will have to rely on memory. Winter...I would hunker. Not sure what else to tell you.

  • @shugemery Perhaps I should have asked what was the longest trip you have taken on a single load-out and if the weather or other circumstances have ever delayed your return (home) unexpectedly. How many days could you last, in Winter, on a single loadout, without hunting or trapping ? Have you ever screwed up and been caught off-guard, by really bad weather ? This is not about some "romantic" macho survival fantasy. I am YOUR age. I am talking about probable realities and fragile security.

  • @shugemery Well. I an on the brink of homelessness and many folk have been living the apocalypse for years or even since birth. I wemt out for a gear check on a cold nite and left my sleep system on the bus (fell out and the bus was gone before I noticed). Spent that nite hugging a hand blower-dryer in a rest-room ... not fun as I was really exhausted by dark. Just sayin' dooms-day can be sudden and pesonal ... The IRS can decide whatever they want. Fate can be individually fickle.

  • @phrankus2009 I reckon I don't dwell on doomsday.....camping for me is a reprieve from the world...dat to day grunt. I always take the easy route! Reckon I would depend on known skills and logic, craftiness, perseverance and cunning.

sounds like a trip I hope to never take.

  • @shugemery That is precisely the answer That I expected but not the one I hoped for. you took the easy way out. I think we both know your dear wife would not bug out, even if you carried her. ... Just the same ... as a purely academic exercise, I would have been interested to peruse your logic as applied to this set of requirements. My issue is that ultralight thru hiking allows for frequent re-supply and gear replacement, without much (further) thought. WWSD (What would shug do?) Karma?.

  • @phrankus2009 I think I would bring my wife with me......she won't fit in the pack though!

Hope I never have that situation......home is my refuge.

  • Would love to see what you would take IF you were alone and could not (ever) return. I know that does not match your "modality" at all but, I'd still like to see what you would "try" to carry and how much it would all weigh, if you were FORCED to evacuate to an UNKNOWN area of operations via an UNKNOWN ROUTE ... for an UNKNOWN DURATION ... I doubt you would ever make THAT vid, but I sure do wish *YOU* would ... Consider yersef fully TAGGED, anyhow. Shug's Never Comin' Home Bugout Bag !
