Gordon Lightfoot
Did She Mention My Name
1968 - Did She Mention My Name
This is a UA product!!!!!

Lyics:

It's so nice to meet an old friend and pass the time of day
And talk about the home town a million miles away
Is the ice still in the river, are the old folks still the same
And by the way, did she mention my name

Did she mention my name just in passing
And when the morning came, do you remember if she dropped a name or two
Is the home team still on fire, do they still win all the games
And by the way, did she mention my name

Is the landlord still a loser, do his signs hang in the hall
Are the young girls still as pretty in the city in the fall
Does the laughter on their faces still put the sun to shame
And by the way, did she mention my name

Did she mention my name just in passing
And when the talk ran high, did the look in her eye seem far away
Is the old roof still leaking when the late snow turns to rain
And by the way, did she mention my name

Did she mention my name just in passing
And looking at the rain, do you remember if she dropped a name or two
Won't you say hello from someone, they'll be no need to explain
And by the way, did she mention my name

  • Is the ice still in the river ,are the ole folks still .the same, and by the way did she mention my name. What profound lyrics,he came to us at the perfect time in history,And the world is a better place for it.

  • I can imagine the character in the song asking if a girl mentioned his name.

Wish someone would ask if I mentioned his name.

  • @leelewisesq He wrote the soundtrack to many more people's life than you can ever imagine. That's why his Lp's sold so well, while also almost drinking himself to death. There is a price to be payed in writing such deep penetrating lyrics.

  • Gordon Lightfoot, one of the greatest singers and songwriters of our time. I really appreciate this post...Cheers....

    Wayne..

  • "Does the laughter on their faces still put the sun to shame."... Brilliant! Lightfoot is the greatest lyricist of all time, bar none.

  • Story of my life. This song puts tears in my eyes.

  • He performed this last night!

  • This is a great United Artists version of this song like all the rest of his early hits. If you can purchase any of his early work on United Artists do so as this is the best raw, austere and hungry versions of his early hits sans percussion. Later he re-recorded many of his hits in defiance of United Artists. However, his originals on United Artists were the best.

  • "Is the home team still on fire are they winning all the games" GO LEAFS GO!

  • Gord is THE BEST! Love him! And this song is just so perfect. And like the comment above - he wrote the soundtrack of my life.

    Thanks Gord, for the music.
