As feed prices drive up the cost of keeping cows, farmers like Sally and Warren Coad say they've found a cost-efficient way of raising cattle -- raise miniature cattle. Plus, they say, smaller breeds lend themselves to young cow handlers. (Aug. 12)

i get $18500 to raise for 5 years . this sounds like factory farm bullshit to me . you're not going to sell an angus for anywhere near that . i call bullshit
yes theres a minature dairy version, Minature Jerseys, they are apparently the most calm, even the bulls are docile. Not to mention the calves are so adorable. and they have the colouring of the large jersey breed. :)
it costs more to dress many smaller cows vs. fewer larger cows so you would think they wouldn't make as much money for the same amount of beef produced.
Probably they do cost a little more to dress per pound of meat, but they cost far, far less to raise (about 1/6th as much as a full-size cow according to this video), so they're really a lot more efficient overall.
Provided the dwarfism isn't bothering the cattle, it looks like these critters have a pretty good life. The same can't be said about all cattle ranches.
Oh, they're not necessarily dwarfs. Some miniature cattle breeds *were* created by specifically breeding dwarfism into existing breeds, but most were just small to begin with, or just bred smaller the normal way.
