Trailer story of Stanley Sheinbaum, a breakthrough political activist of the 20th century. Journalist Robert Scheer (Truthdig.com) chronicles Sheinbaum's life in the style of a buddy picture, as the two of them are old pals. Scheer gets Sheinbaum to describe managing a CIA project in the fifties, connected to South Viet Nam, where torture was the unspoken dirty secret. Like a Forrest Gump character, appearing at every juncture, Sheinbaum pops up in court to defend Daniel Ellsberg's release of the Pentagon Papers. He pops up in Greece, where Andreas Papandreau, who became prime minister three times, thanked Sheinbaum for saving his life. Richard Dreyfuss narrates the history. Sheinbaum befriends Yasser Arafat, in order to negotiate peace in the Middle East, shocking Jews in his home town of Los Angeles. Bill Clinton took notice, and asked Sheinbaum to visit King Assad of Syria on his behalf.
As critics have noted, Citizen Stan carves a fascinating profile.

History is made by people like Stan Sheinbaum. But their contribution is too often overlooked and lost in the annals of history. Glad such a smart man of integrity and conscience has been brought to my attention. Thank you. A great post :)
