Is your medium fountain pen nib fine - or nearer broad. And if you want something finer, how much finer is the next nib down? We have the answer and how we didi it.

  • Is there an international standard for B (broad), M (medium), F (fine) and EF (extra fine), because everyone lists them differently on their websites? Averagely, F should be anything around 1mm, while EF should be anything below 1mm, all the way to 0.25mm, which we love to use for detailed book illustrations. THX

  • Best example of why you should be careful when picking a fountain pen: my broad Sailor Sapporo nib was EXACTLY what I wanted it to be - almost indistinguishable from a Western medium. It rarely lays down a line that's broader than my other Western M nibs.

It rarely lays down a line that's broader than my other Western M nibs. In fact, I daresay the ideosyncratic Medium in my Pelikan M400 sometimes writes broader than the Sapporo.
