The Great Britain II, 34067 Tangmere + 70013 Oliver Cromwell, 7Apr09

After the disappointing failure of 5029 on the 5th, it was a relief to find that 34067 Tangmere came to the rescue for this tour from Penzance to Bristol. Tangmere is here performing what turned out to be the second leg of a round trip from London to Preston via Penzance! due to the failure of other locos previously rostered for the Great Britain II tour, a big ask, but a big revenue eaner!! Things could have started better, as a points failure at Penzance meant a 68 minute delay, reducing to 60 mins at Par. then, after the water stop at Par, a local stopping service was allowed through, which put pay to any more catching up, and by the time it got to Plymouth it was 80 minutes down. I would have preferred the original plan for Oliver Cromwell to go it alone from Penzance to Plymouth, which is why I went to Plymouth Dockyard Halt to witness the hard climb from Keyham, as it turned out, the train was double-headed all the way and the climb was taken with ease. Hemerdon was like a football match by the time I got there, so Hemerdon sidings had to do. Regulators are still wide open at this point, so it is still a good spectacle. Look out for D1015 tucked in the siding behind the trees and the crew taking photos, also the pheasant dicing with death under the 80 sign (watch in HQ).

Thank you Bob and everyone who have left kind comments on this clip. I think most of us who have been filming for a while are continually looking for new locations and YouTube is a great way of sharing new places to film. I got so cold waiting at Hemerdon sidings that I gave up after that shot and went home for a soak in the bath!!
