i get mine off in 7 days. im so exited! its crazy! i have had them about 1 and a half years. i'm in 8th grade so everyone is getting theres off now, and they all day getting them off is okay, but when they scape off the glue you hear a HORRIBLE sound. how loud is it? please do reply(: thanks!!

@PutxAxLilxSmile Hello. We use a handpiece with a special bur to polish off the glue. I used to use the "scraper" but don't anymore because it is not a gentle as the handpiece, and also my hand would get very tired. You sound like you're excited to get your braces off. Congratulations on this milestone in your life. Enjoy your new smile. Oh, and say thanks to your parents or whoever paid for your braces. I have had braces for over a year and a half and i am getting mine off soon! I'm scared of impressions for retainers becuase i have very bad gag reflexes. do you have any tips or tricks i can use? I have had impressions once for an expander and gagged. Please reply!! Thankyou Dr.Bergh

@Bubblywaters07 Well, first of all, CONGRATULATIONS!! This is an exciting time for you. Some of the things we use in our for people who have a gag reflex are:

1. Breathe in through your nose, out through your mouth.

2. We play games with our patients, like lift your foot, spin it around, do this forwards, backwards, up&down, etc.

3. There is also a topical spray available that numbs the back of the throat. We don't use this very often in our office.

I have a question, well I'm getting braces soon

and I have a really bad gag reflex,

they even told me if I keep having bad reflex

everytime I go there gonna stop the process

and I honestly don't want to, but I just can't help or stop the gaging.

what can I do?

would braces make me gag?

@alexskittycat hey i just got mine off! Don't worry your teeth don't chip! that is just not going to happen i can assure you. Getting them off isn't quick, it is a long process (maybe an hour) but most of it is just relaxing. The only painful part for me was when they took off the glue. It just feels like your teeth are being frozen but that doesn't last long.

DO you get permanent retainers on your top teeth too? Can all orthodontists do permanent? DO you have to have an impression for them? Please tell me what i need to know!? thanks!
