Sleep deprivation ranges from weight gain, irritability, hallucinations and even depression. In the 1900s people slept for more than nine hours. Eight hours in the 1960s But now because of our increasing 24/7 society we are sleeping for six hours or less.
Prof Foster says we are sleep deprived, harming our memory, mental dexterity, and health. But also losing our power of innovation.
I really agree with everything this gentleman has to say about lack of sleep and how society has come to view sleep as an illness that needs a cure (which is absolutely true and horrifying to say the least). Many people go so far as to boast their ability to get minimal sleep and still accomplish daily tasks. I have even seen these types of people make fun of people who say that they need 8 hours of sleep as if those people were weak or lazy. Society really disregards sleep as being vital.
